Kirsten Brown's ideas

Kirsten, in Room 19, has been playing around with some literacy ideas.  She adapted the Reading Independent Activities sheet from a year 7 and 8 one that was used in her previous school.  The class have been working on the success criteria so that everyone knows what the work will "look" like.

  1. Basically my big ideas are our AOs for Space. The activities are designed for the children to do and choose as they wish. This happens during Reading while I am with other groups. They connect to other learning areas.

I think that I have given the children too much choice. We have come up with our success criteria, but the students still come to me to see if they have done enough or can publish- it is a work in progress.

I also think that I have given them too much choice- so we have two options. Option One they can choose anything. Option Two I decide on two things and if they have trouble choosing then they choose one of those. Scaffolding the ones who take forever to decide.

I am also checking up on their progress each time I have them for a reading group. I wasn't doing this before and found that not much was getting completed properly. They also have a four day timeframe (approximately) for each activity.

If you want to come for a look, you are more than welcome.
